Which corn hybrid choose for the weather conditions in Central Ukraine

The FarmerScan team asked the manufacturing companies, which hybrids they recommend for sowing in 2019, and this is what they told:

Limagrain - accent on mid-season hybrids

Andrii Andrienko, Regional Development Manager of the company „Limagrain Ukraine”, told, which FAO is better to choose for the conditions of the central region: "If we talk about our region, the golden mean is FAO 250-350. Last year the hybrids with the FAO 350 became successful, but in fact, it was more an eventuality than a regularity. Sowing of late-season hybrids is risky; it can lead to an incomplete harvest. If there is deficient of moisture in August, the grain will not be filled".

According to the expert, hybrids of the intensive type, which can withstand crops in monoculture, are in demand in recent years. The following hybrids appeared in the company's portfolio: LG 30352 (FAO 340) and LG 31377 (FAO 360). These hybrids have strong potential and have shown high yields both on demo and in macro seeding.

Andrii Andrienko advises to choose the well-known and time proved hybrids LG 33.50 and Adevei for extensive technologies. These are universal hybrids, which will show results by using intensive technology under appropriate conditions.

“RAGT Semences”: choose air-drought resistant hybrids

"In Central Ukraine, very extreme climatic conditions fall down on July-August. Therefore, the increased stress resistance of hybrids is important, it allows to withstand this period without significant loss of yield. The company „RAGT” created hybrids "Stressless" for such conditions, which withstand air-drought well", said Viktor Dudnyk, sales manager of “RAGT Semenses” in Kirovohrad Oblast.

The manager advises to choose several hybrids from different maturity group that may reduce the risks and optimize the harvesting process.

Viktor Dudnyk considers that Ekksklam (FAO 270), Lipekks (FAO 290), Alekksandra (FAO 350), as well as the novelties RZHT Hekksahon (FAO 390) and RZHT Hemalaiakks (FAO 330) are some of the best hybrids in the corn lineup. They belong to the hybrids "Stressless", so they are perfect for each farm.

"Lipekks, Hemalaiakks and Hekksahon belong to the intensive hybrids that unlock potential on a high agricultural background. Despite the FAO 290, Lipekks gives one of the best results at the demonstration fields with sufficient doses of nitrogen and precipitations. Alekksandra is an extensive hybrid that shows its maximum under all cultivating sconditions." 

Pioneer – get maximum harvest

All-Ukrainian Yield Competition "Pioneer Maximum" is held annually to define the best hybrids of the company "Pioneer".

In 2018, the P0216 hybrid won in the nomination “The best harvest of a corn hybrid Pioneer” with a scoring yield of 191.7 c/ha and humidity of 18.7% during the harvest time. Such result was obtained by the agricultural limited liability company "Dnepr" of the Cherkasy Oblast on a field of 120 hectares.

In such a way, the specialists of agricultural limited liability company "Dnepr" surpassed their own last year's record, which was 180.4 centners per hectare and was obtained thanks to the same hybrid.

Such a result was achieved thanks to the qualified care and irrigation of the plots. That was noted by Andrii Dusheiko, the scientific consultant of the agricultural limited liability company „Dnepr”. The representatives of the farm told that they plan to achieve even greater results with the hybrid Р0216.

Hybrids Р8816, Р9911, Р9241 are recognized as the most popular corn hybrids in addition to Р0216.

Novelties by the company "Syngenta"

Ihor Kovalchuk, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Assistant professor, Manager of Technical Support, expert on corn seeds and grains of the company "Syngenta", told about the novelties of the year 2019:

"The representatives of our company select hybrids for each farm that will meet conditions of agro-climatic zone, applied technology and growing conditions. The hybrids of intensive type are suitable for maximum yields in case of high fertilizer supply and sufficient amount of precipitations. In 2019, the novelty, which is called SI Enermaks, appeared among these hybrids. Hybrid SI Pandoras was added to the list of hybrids with good adaptive capacity, which give a high yield regardless of the agricultural background".

Ihor Kovalchuk marked out hybrids "Artezian", which are distinguished by high yield and resistance even by stressful weather conditions. These include corn hybrids SI Fenomenon, SI Fortaho, SI Chorinthos, SI Zefir and novelties of year 2019 – SI Skorpius, SI Orfeus.

As the technical support manager noted, efficient use of water and resistance to high temperatures make it possible to unleash the yield potential and give hybrids of Artesian-brand a competitive advantage under stress conditions.

COMPANY "MAIS" and silage hybrids

A new product of the company "MAIS" will be interesting for the manufacturers, who are engaged in animal farming – an array of silage hybrids Silo-PRO. In the laboratory of a specialized institute, the best hybrids were selected taking into account more than 20 characteristics, from which silage of first class is received, namely: DM Neit, Turiia, DMS 3709, DMS 4011. There were following key criteria by selection: the best yield of feed units per one ha, the yield of green mass, the balance of nutrients, high digestibility and nutrient availability. According to company representatives, the advantages of using Silo-PRO hybrids are an increase in milk yield and body weight gain with a significant reduction in the cost of feeding rations.
