The last year farms increasingly began to invest in the cultivation of legumes. Despite the price-cutting, the popularity of this area is growing. It was noticed by the participants of the 3rd International Conference “Legumes. New markets. New opportunities”, which took place on November 29th in Kiev. 300 participants from 32 countries of the world discussed the cultivation, sale and processing of legumes on the Eastern and Asian markets.
This year, the crop acreages in Ukraine have grown to 555,000 hectares. One of the promising export directions is food production. This can increase profits by more than 10% percent.
Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Olha Trofimtseva assures:
"The cultivation of legumes is definitely a promising direction. There is potential both on the inside market and on the foreign one. Moreover, we are talking not only about India; there are also Africa and the Middle East. For example, Morocco is a country that is interested in legumes and is ready to buy it in Ukraine. Therefore, this is a very interesting direction, especially for medium and small farms."
"In Ukraine, our association together with the Ministry is working to popularize legumes among common people. We want to show that you can cook different healthy and tasty dishes from legumes. For example, at today's event, 23 dishes from legumes are presented”, said the president of the PC “Association of Producers and Consumers of Legumes of Ukraine” Antonina Skliarenko.
The event was organized for the third time by the PC team “Association of Producers and Consumers of Legumes of Ukraine”.
